I’m performing with Heart Stück Bernie
Inaugural Dance Place Artist in Residence, Sarah Beth Oppenheim / Heart Stück Bernie returns to the Dance Place stage with the world premiere of Holster Buffalo at the culmination of four years of research into American arts activism and community organizing. Holster Buffalo is the final iteration of 120 Project, a multi-faceted arts activism platform that began as a road trip to connect with communities across the United States following the 2016 presidential election. The question at the start: how can we use dance, comics, and dialogue as a means of community building? The answers have been a documentary film, a comic book anthology, and now, this dance theater work.
Inspired by the changing landscape of politics and based on doing acts of kindness to repair the world, as informed by the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam, Holster Buffalo is a dance experiment in social justice. Grappling with how dance can effect change or make consequence, the piece is part annotated workbook for addressing the country and part exercise in physical metaphor.
