fold

Made up of over 500 hand-drawn frames, Fold is a digital collage of film, animation, paper craft, stolen coffee stirrers, and choreography. A dreamlike self-portrait, the multiplying figures create a sense of unreality, thoughts half-started and running together, spiraling and repeating.

Inspired by the illusion of depth created by fabric folds, crow’s feet, and sunlight through linen, this eclectic collage uses rotoscope animation to move across mediums – from live performance, to film, to photographs, to illustrations, and then back into film.

“Fold” has been presented at The Phillips Collection, where it was on view from Dec 2023-Feb 2024.

You are

Scored, choreographed, and performed by Amanda Blythe, “You Are” is a short dance film, ruminating on metamorphosis in a vacuum.

“You Are” has been presented at the Dance Place: Dance on Film Festival and the 38th Annual Choreographer's Showcase.

phototrope

Phototropism describes an organism’s growth in response to light stimulus. Seen in plants and some species of fungi, positive phototropism is on display any time your house plants lean recklessly out of their pots towards the sun, seeking out the sun. While the trend of all life on earth is turning towards survival, towards the light, the complex human organism self-sabotages and confuses this seemingly universal organizing principle, the impulse to thrive. The titular organism of "Phototrope" struggles to grow and escape the negative entropy of their own internal state, against the backdrop of nature’s brutal efficiency.

“Phototrope” has been presented at the CAPITOL Dance & Cinema Festival and the FROSTBITE International Indie Fest. Semi-Finalist at the Dumbo Film Festival.
